Irish Water’s contractors were forced out of an area by hostile locals when they were trying to replace toxic lead pipes.
The incident occurred in the Claddagh, one of the oldest parts of Galway city’s docklands, where the water leakage rate is an astonishing 90 per cent.
Some residents would not remove their cars to allow the lead pipe replacement to take place, while other people were walking up to the contractors...
