Irish Water is promising that its €850 million water pipeline will boost multinational jobs in regional towns. The plan to pipe 330 million litres per day from the river Shannon to the eastern region has aroused opposition from some landowners and protest groups.

But Irish Water is highlighting the potential for the 170-kilometre pipeline to be used by midland towns along the route such as Tullamore, Mullingar and Portlaoise to attract industry.
