Irish Cancer Society: Finian McGrath's remarks 'irresponsible'

Charity warns rollback of smoking ban will cause needless deaths

The Irish Cancer Society has criticised new junior health minister Finian McGrath's call for a rowback on the smoking ban.

It branded Independent Alliance TD McGrath's remarks as "unhelpful and irresponsible" - at the same time as efforts are underway to make Ireland tobacco free by 2025.

The society said: "The smoking ban and increases in excise duty are effective public health measures that save lives.
