Hundreds of families seek rent support every week

Cost of funding Housing Assistance Payment has surged to €153 million in just three years

Almost 350 households a week are accessing the government’s emergency rent support, the vast majority of whom are lone parent families or couples with children.

Figures released by the Department of Housing show that 25,000 households are using the Household Assistance Payment (HAP), which gets 339 new applicants a week.
