Hit Airbnb hosts with safety checks and VAT says hotels boss

Airbnb hosts should be subject to VAT, and face health and safety and compliance checks, according to the founder of one of the country’s biggest hotel groups.

David Collins, co-founder and chief operating officer of Great National Hotels & Resorts, which provides management services to more than 130 properties and owns seven hotels in Ireland, said Airbnb had been “exceptionally disruptive” to the industry.
