Global coal growth 'unsustainable', IEA says

Global demand for coal over the next five years will continue to grow and is likely to break the nine billion tonne level by 2019, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has said.

In its annual Medium-Term Coal Market Report, the agency said that despite China’s efforts to moderate its coal consumption, it will still account for more than three-fifths of demand during the outlook period.
