Irish Life & Permanent's former finance director Peter Fitzpatrick has been acquitted of partaking in a conspiracy to mislead investors.

The 63-year-old held his head in his hands and cried with relief as the jury verdict was returned at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court this afternoon. He hugged members of his family and his barrister Brendan Grehan when Judge Martin Nolan told him he was free to go.
