Flood alert: Seven tips to keep you safe if water leaks into your property

Homeowners and businesses urged to draw up an emergency plan in advance

As Storm Desmond continues to wreak havoc across the country, homeowners at risk of flooding are being warned to draw up a flood plan in advance.

As members of the public brace themselves for further damage, the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCSI) said the safety was he first priority and that if people have a plan they can avoid taking unnecessary risks.

The body estimates that between 40 and 50,000 properties are currently at risk of flooding.
