The confidential settlements were made before a landmark action against the US conglomerate, owned by Johnson & Johnson, began in the High Court last Wednesday.
John Heeney, a retired CIE signalman from Thurles, Co Tipperary, brought personal injury proceedings against DePuy and the HSE in the first case of its kind to reach a hearing in Europe. The case went into evidence but quickly settled for what is understood to be a six-figure sum.
