Thousands took to the streets of the capital this morning for the 36th Dublin Marathon which was won by Ethiopia's Alemu Gemechu in a time of 2:14:01.

More than 15,000 athletes took part in the race with almost 4,500 runners coming from 62 countries around the globe to join an estimated 10,800 Irish participants.

The first woman to cross the line was Nataliya Lehonkova of Ukraine in a time of 2:30:00.
