ESB profit after tax rises by 33% to €286 million in 2015

The electricity company paid a dividend of €273 million to the state last year

ESB has announced a profit after interest and tax of €286 million for 2015, an increase of €71 million or 33 per cent on the previous year, driven by the improved availability of its generation plant.

The company said operating profit rose by €83 million to €635 million in 2015 while its performance improvement programme has delivered cost savings of €270 million since 2010, critical to maintaining the company's profitability.
