Elderly farmer goes to High Court against planning board

Putting farms on vacant site register is ‘CPO through the back door’

An 80-year-old farmer is taking his fight to remove his land from the vacant site register to the High Court.

Cork County Council added Allan Navratil’s land near Midleton to the vacant sites register in January 2018. Sites on the register will be subject to a levy of 3 per cent of the site’s market value in 2018. This will increase to 7 per cent from 2019.

Navratil has argued that his lands are not vacant....
