Consultants to sue state for breach of contract

Hundreds of hospital consultants have initiated High Court proceedings against the state over millions of euro in unpaid salary rises they claim are owed to them since 2008.

Many filed their legal actions last week in order to ensure they complied with the Statute of Limitations.

A solicitor involved with one of the legal firms representing the doctors said as many as 400 consultants were pursuing claims.
