The Irish Cancer Society has called on the HSE to introduce clear referral pathways for patients with suspected colon cancers. The call comes amid mounting concern about colonoscopy waiting times.

“We believe that the introduction of more specific referral guidelines will help improve colonoscopy waiting times,” said the Irish Cancer Society’s head of services and advocacy Donal Buggy.

Hiqa published recommendations on this in 2014, but they have not been implemented.
