Claire Byrne: ‘It is problematic if you are seeking out women, or men, rather than seeking out the most authoritative person’

RTE broadcaster Claire Byrne has hit out against critics who say there is a male gender bias in broadcasting.

“When it comes to broadcasting, I don’t think Ireland has done too badly in promoting women on the airwaves,” said Byrne, who will front a new hour-long current affairs TV programme, Claire Byrne Live, beginning on RTE on January 19.
