Chief medical officer didn’t back Harris’s free smear test offer

Revelation likely to ratchet up pressure on beleaguered minister

The state’s chief medical officer, Dr Tony Holohan, did not support the blanket offer for a free smear test for women that was tweeted by Minister for Health Simon Harris last April.

The revelation is likely to intensify the already strong pressure on the embattled Harris, as it contradicts claims he has made in recent weeks.
