The basic objective of the National Broadband Plan (NBP) is to do for rural broadband in this century what the state did with rural electricity in the last century.

Meeting this objective will now take three times longer than originally projected, connect far fewer premises than originally projected, and cost the state up to nine times the price originally projected.

The plans have been objected to strenuously by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform....
