British PM Theresa May seeks snap general election

The election will take place on June 8

British prime minister Theresa May has said she plans to seek an early UK election on June 8 in a move seen as an attempt to strengthen her hand as goes into talks on leaving the EU.

She plans to move a motion in the House of Commons tomorrow to enable the election, which was not due until 2020, to take place.

"Let the people decide" she said.
