A defeated Fianna Fáil candidate has called for the return of former taoiseach Bertie Ahern to revive the party’s fortunes in the Dublin Central constituency.

Fianna Fáil was the dominant force in the constituency when Ahern was getting up to 12,000 votes in general elections with the help of his electoral machine, known as the ‘Drumcondra Mafia’.
