Almost 50,000 migrants arrive in Greece in the past five days

The country has recorded the highest inflows of migrants since the beginning of this year as crisis continues

Greece has seen record numbers of migrants and refugees land on its shores in the space of just five days, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has said.

Despite deteriorating weather conditions, the organisation said a around 48,000 migrants crossed from Turkey to the Greek islands – or about 9,600 migrants and refugees in each of the past five days.
