A community hit twice as fires engulf California

As the residents of Thousand Oaks in California struggled to come to terms with the latest US mass shooting, events were soon to be overtaken by new disaster, as a nearby wildfire ran quickly out of control claiming more lives

For the shell-shocked and grieving Thousand Oaks community, it must have seemed like things couldn’t get any worse. On Thursday evening, there were harrowing scenes as thousands of friends, family members and neighbours gathered for a vigil to mourn the 12 people killed in the fourth mass shooting in as many weeks in the United States.
