Thieves lift phones to tune of €3m with many robberies during socialising hours

Owners urged to record IMEI to enhance security as majority of thefts now involve mobiles

Over 7,000 mobile phones to the value of almost €3m have been stolen since 2015 with devices accounting for almost 60 per cent of all robberies.

Two out of every five thefts occur between the socialising hours of 10pm and 4am, according to latest figures from An Garda Síochána. Over half of reported theft and robbery incidents since 2015 occurred between Friday and Sunday.
