ICT skills: Mobility the key to modern ICT

The term ‘mobile workforce’ might elicit visions of smartphone and tablet-using executives rushing from meeting to meeting, but there is another sense in which workers can be mobile, writes Jason Walsh.

A report published in July 2014 by government agency Solas indicates some interesting trends in ICT employment, not least of which is that some workers, particularly programmers, increasingly eschew security in favour of high wages and flexibility.

Solas, which replaced Fás in 2103, found that programmers tended to be more mobile than most other careers, not only in general but within the ICT sector specifically.
