Last month, 37,000 Eir Mobile customers were hit with the news that some of their personal data had been compromised in a breach. Eir has confirmed that the data was stored on an employee laptop that was stolen offsite. These types of breaches are not uncommon. In fact, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) recorded 2,795 valid data security breaches in 2017 alone. That figure is up by 26 per cent from 2016.
