Blockchain experts have given a cautious welcome to the announcement of libra, Facebook’s new cryptocurrency.

Unlike other forms of cryptocurrency such as bitcoin and ethereum, libra’s value will be linked to a basket of conventional currencies. Users will be able to access libra through Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp, but not, for now at least, Instagram.
