Big surge in Dot-IE registrations

The tail end of March saw a surge in Dot-IE domain registrations. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 was a record day for registrations of domain names under the suffix, as many of the restrictions were lifted for Ireland’s national Internet domain.

Almost 700 applications for new domain names were approved, more than five times the typical daily average for Dot-IE.

The surge is due to a change in policy whereby it is no longer necessary for applicants...
