Karl Deeter: Is rent control ‘gutter material’?

All credible economists are against rent certainty – strong contracts would benefit the market

Last week, Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen described the proposed Rent Certainty bill put forward by Sinn Féin as “gutter stuff”.

Perhaps Cowen didn’t read his own party’s document on the subject (August 2015’s Generation Rent – A New Deal for Renters and Landlords) which specifically called for rent certainty as one of its three main pillar solutions.
