Fine Gael is expressing frustration with the stance of Fianna Fáil after the failure to break the logjam on water charges.

Party sources said Fianna Fáil had backed itself into a corner by demanding a suspension of water charges and was not willing to budge.

But Fianna Fáil is insisting that the promise it made in its election manifesto has to be respected.
