Taoiseach Leo Varadkar had dinner with one of the Irish stars of Downton Abbey during his recent trip to the US.

He met Allen Leech, who plays Tom Branson, an Irishman trying to hold onto his identity among the royal-loving aristocrats in Downton.

In the recent big screen adaptation of the ITV series, Branson had to tone down his republican beliefs during a visit by King George V and even come to his aid.
