Tóibín had secret deal with Adams on abortion issue

Agreement allowed former Sinn Féin TD to engage with media as long as he gave party’s position before outlining his own

The former Sinn Féin TD Peadar Tóibín had a secret deal with Gerry Adams which allowed him to express his anti-abortion views in the media.

Tóibín quit Sinn Féin earlier this month having been temporarily suspended over his opposition to abortion. The party said last week that there was no written agreement between the Meath West TD and its former leader, but newly-obtained emails indicate otherwise....
