Taoiseach Leo Varadkar should not be afraid to speak out forcefully against Donald Trump when he meets the US president next year, a former senior White House adviser has said.

Jake Sullivan, who will meet Varadkar in Dublin this week, served as a senior national security adviser in Barack Obama’s administration, and was set to be national security adviser to Hillary Clinton had she won the US election last year.
