The insurance industry has paid out more than €1 billion in claims for so-called weather events in the last few years, and now, on the back of the latest bout of flooding, looks set to face another slew of claims.

More claims is likely to translate into higher insurance premiums for consumers and business owners, meaning home insurance, car insurance, business cover and so on look set to become more expensive.
