Red C Poll: No ‘Leo leap’ as Varadkar lands with a bump

Fine Gael had hoped its new leader would get a honeymoon bounce, but this poll result will dampen down any desire to call an early election

Fine Gael had been expecting a ‘Leo leap’ during the honeymoon period which new leaders often get upon taking office.

But the latest Sunday Business Post/Red C poll shows that the controversies over judicial appointments, bin charges and the lack of female ministers have brought the country’s youngest ever Taoiseach somewhat down to earth.

The party is down by two points to 27 per cent, which will temper any desire...
