Plans to allow people to use their PPS number to register online to vote are to be brought forward ahead of the local and European elections next year.

The government is set to finalise plans in the coming weeks for a new online portal that would allow for automatic online registration by voters using their social security numbers. Voters would also be able to change their address using the new system.
