Minister overturns councillors’ zoning decision

Minister of State for Housing Damien English has overturned a decision by councillors to zone an isolated out of town site for housing.

Councillors had designated a site as suitable for residential and industrial development, even though it was located in a rural area outside the town of Arklow.

This was contrary to the advice of the Wicklow council chief executive Frank Curran, the National Transport Authority and the Department of Housing’s planners. Their view...
