While acknowledging that “water will have to be paid for one way or another”, Tom McGurk reckons that because of the Irish water “fiasco . . . the terrible truth is dawning that . . . we live in a failed state” (Comment and Analysis, 2/11/2014).

The much more serious fiasco in terms of its impact on all of us, ie the bankrupting of the country, has also to be paid for one way or another.
