Chicago-based senator Billy Lawless has confirmed he will claim nearly €30,000 in expenses to travel to Ireland for business.
The Galway-born restaurateur was appointed to the Seanad by Enda Kenny last May, despite living nearly 6,000 kilometres from Dublin.
He is the only senator not based on the island of Ireland.
