Landlord-tenant disputes up 16 per cent this year

Complaints over withholding of deposits, invalid termination of leases by landlords and the non-payment of rent

The number of disputes between landlords and tenants has increased by 16 per cent this year, at a time of rising tensions in the rental market.

The top three sources of complaints are the withholding of deposits by landlords, invalid termination of leases by landlords and the non-payment of rent by tenants.

The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) said it had received 4,664 complaints so far this year, compared to 4,023 for the whole of last year.
