Kenny moves to set up citizens' assembly on abortion

Taoiseach denies assembly is "a stalling tactic"

Taoiseach Enda Kenny is going to bring a memo to cabinet next week to set up a Citizens Assembly on abortion.

He made the announcement at Leader's Questions in the Dail after a UN body criticised Ireland's abortion laws last week.

Kenny said the first issue to be debated by the citizens assembly would be the question of the eighth amendment in the constitution on the right to life of the unborn.
