Senior officials in the Department of Justice have heavily criticised the Policing Authority in a private memo to Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan, The Sunday Business Post can reveal.

The authority, which the government wants to abolish, was described as being constrained in its role, creating administrative complexity, prolonging decision-making and causing confusion, according to an official ministerial memo approved by the Minister for Justice last year.
