Mary Lou McDonald's imminent arrival as leader of Sinn Féin is certainly going to shake up Irish politics.

It has been a long time coming, with some setbacks along the way. Back in the 2007 general election campaign, there were vans being driven around Dublin Central by Sinn Féin volunteers on the night before polling day with "Hello Mary Lou" blaring out from loudspeakers.
