Fine Gael wanted former attorney general Peter Sutherland to stop providing advice to the late Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan jr during the banking crisis, it has emerged.

Sutherland had developed a close relationship with Fianna Fáil’s Lenihan because both of them were barristers and both had been privately educated at Jesuit schools – Gonzaga College in the case of Sutherland, and Belvedere College in Lenihan’s case.
