FF's Sean O’Fearghail to become Ceann Comhairle

Kildare South TD finished well ahead of FG's Andrew Doyle

He finished with 74 votes, putting him ahead of his nearest rival, Fine Gael’s Andrew Doyle, who got 58.

O’Fearghail will now be in charge of keeping order in the Dail and pushing Dail reforms.

It is the first time a Ceann Comhairle has been elected by secret ballot, with the position previously being always held by the government nominee.
