FF and SDLP to announce plans for closer ties

Fianna Fáil and the SDLP are expected to formally announce plans for closer cooperation on a number of policies next month ahead of a gradual merger of the two parties in the coming years.

Senior figures in both parties have intensified talks about cooperating more closely in recent weeks in the wake of the political instability caused by Brexit and the ongoing political impasse at Stormont.
