Taoiseach Enda Kenny has privately acknowledged to his former minister for justice, Alan Shatter, that he handled Garda whistleblower claims properly.

Kenny had told Shatter back in 2014 that he could no longer express confidence in him, after receiving a report on his handling of allegations of Garda misconduct.

Shatter felt he had no option but to resign but he was later vindicated when a commission of investigation found that he had handled the allegations properly.
