Danny Healy-Rae, a councillor in Killarney, was having his first run in a general election, while sitting TD Michael Healy-Rae replaced their father, the late Jackie Healy-Rae, in the Dáil in 2007.

Danny Healy-Rae said that their performance was “no accident”. He said: “We know the people and the people know us.”
