Election 2016: Leaders' debate does little to change the big picture

The election campaign remains deadlocked with no apparent alternative government in sight

The morning after RTÉ's seven-way leaders' debate, nine days to polling, and the campaign apparently deadlocked with the coalition miles away from re-election and no apparent alternative government in sight.

I saw little last night that might alter that position. The smaller parties, especially the Social Democrats, will be happier than the four big parties with their performances; it was noticeable that nearly all the lines that provoked applause from the representative audience...
