Cluskey’s phrase echoed around the Backroom this week as we considered Micheál Martin’s decision to appoint Timmy Dooley to take on the same role for the next one.

To be fair to Lalor, Cluskey had to eat his words as the 1987 election saw Fianna Fáil win ten extra seats, propelling Haughey back into office.
