The Galway Early Music Festival really harks back to the dawn of music in its opening concert next Thursday. The festival, now celebrating its 20th year, takes place from May 14-17 and, true to form, never fails to entertain, educate and intrigue.

It kicks off next Thursday (8pm) in St Nicholas Collegiate Church with a choral work that was originally performed around the year 1200 by the choristers of Beauvais Cathedral near Paris.
