In 1904, Giovanni Mariani left the United States with his mother to return to Italy, the country of his parents’ birth. John Mariani, as he was known in the US, was born in 1895 in the state of Connecticut, but upon his father’s early death his mother took her six young children back to live with her sister in Italy.
